Proud to be in TXMPA

Last night, I was a proud Texas filmmaker. At the TXMPA bash, there were a lot of people getting things done. In a big way. Bob Hudgins, who is both brilliant and incredibly nice, has done some great work in crafting incentives for the film industry. Janet Pierson, Dana Wheeler Nicholson, Matt Dentler and Rebecca Campbell gave some great insight on how things are going and why it's all important. I got to see some old friends, too. Jameson, who runs an amazing screening series for AFS, Kenneth, Gary, the other Gary, Suzanne, and some of the filmgrrls and of course, Screendoor's Ryan Long who wants to bring more indie films to Austin. (By the way, Ryan is not only doing a lot for film in Austin, he's also incredibly sweet. I love that guy!)

While I sometimes dread midweek gatherings, especially on busy Wednesdays, it was nice, once I got there and started mingling, to just catch up with everyone.

Kat and I have been very much in our own world lately. I'm editing, trying to tame a crazy freelance gig, and being a mentor at UTFI, in addition to my usual hi-jinks's. Kat is teaching about 100/classes a week, writing up a storm and kicking butt and taking names.
We're both working on finalizing all the jumping off bridges paperwork (yeah, I know, it's been a year, no, two years) and looking forward to finalize what we're doing with the film next. Exciting times.

In the middle of all of that, there is just regular life stuff: running and dogs and friends and neighbors. The half marathon is next weekend. My best friend in the whole world comes to town next week, then I get to host a filmmaker friend for a few days, then Annalise comes home just because she wants to hang out with me before her spring break, and that's just February. (In my dreams, this March I'll be at a running/travel camp in Madagascar that is incredibly cheap. You wake up and run around the wilderness and then you just get to hang out and watch wild lemurs and drink strong coffee and tell stories. Sounds pretty amazing, for another time, but a girl can dream.)

For now, if you're in Texas, please go now and join TXMPA. Don't delay. It's important. We're gonna get this incentive thing done. Just watch us.
